P2V software table

Finally I had a time to prepare small table with P2V software which I had experience with.  At the moment table consists information about VMware Converter 4 standalone, DoubleTake Move 5 and PlateSpine 8 Migrate.
In fact is only features comparison between three different software.

P2V software

Some time ago I was looking for P2V software which could be useful during one of my projects. I had to make P2V about 150 servers, 75% was in remote customer locations, 25% was located in destination datacenter.

Criteria:
  1. HOT migration
  2. Bandwidth limit - very useful option which will prevent WAN overload
  3. Support for Windows 2003 server and optional Windows 2000 server as a source servers
  4. Support VI3 and vSphere4 as a destination platform.
  5. Support of block-based migrations - very important if you have to make HOT migration of very BIG servers through WAN
After several days of "googling" reading posts on VMware communities, articles on websites, I'd choose 4 products for testing phase.
Within next few weeks I'm going to write post about each software which I was tested. I will try to include all info which I have, all tips and tricks which I know. I will include my opinion about support engineers, companies representatives which I was talked to. To give you wide overview and what you can expect not only from software itself but from software vendor as well.
First post will be about Vmware Converter 4 Standalone.

Time to start blogging :-)

Finally, I have a time to publish my first post on my first personal blog, heh.

In fact I don not have much experience with blogging or publishing in internet but I'm going to try it.

Maybe at the very beginning I will write few words about myself and my experience with virtualization.
My adventure with virtualization was started in 2006 with Microsoft Product product called VirtualPC. I was looking for solution which would help me to build simple laboratory at office. Unfortunately VirtualPC wasn't what I was looking for (mainly because doesn't supporting Novell Netware 6 and above) and then I'd found Vmware Workstation. After a few days I said "Yes, this is it"  since then I "get in love" into virtualization.

Currently I'm working in Brno, Czech Republic as a Vmware Administrator mainly playing with virtualization projects across my company customers.

So, summarizing, I have some experience in virtualization area and I would like to share it with community. I hope I would find someone who wants read it :-) and comment it.
